Summary

It will be great 15-day adventure and experience to cycle around the most impressive places of Armenia. We will get started with a city tour in the capital city of Armenia, Yerevan. We will visit galleries, museums, concert complexes, bridges and much more. We will move to Aparan, Sanahin, Haghpat and Noyemberyan. Next spots will be Ijevan, Goshavank and Dilijan. From Dilijan we will move to Lake Sevan and Tsapatagh. The rest of the destinations will include Yeghegnadzor, Goris and Sisian. We will take the longest reversible aerial tramway in Tatev. For the last day will take a city tour, climb up the Cascade at Yerevan; enjoy and capture the city view!

Day 1
Arrival

Arrival, meeting and transfer to the hotel (preferred arrival times before the tour start day 12pm - 6am). You will be checked in hotel the time you arrive, your room will be reserved.  There are preferred arrival times as it would be better to have some rest before the start of the tour. In case you have some free time our guide will advise how to spend your time, what to visit, where to eat.

Arrival at Zvartnots International Airport (Armenia)

Day 2
Yerevan

The first day includes visiting Museum of history of Armenia which is the national museum of Armenia founded in 1919. Then we will have a walk in Yerevan and we will just admire the beauty of Yerevan which stretches under the gaze of biblical mountain Ararat. Our tour also includes visiting Erebuni fortress-museum which is a fortified city from the ancient kingdom of Urartu, located in Yerevan. It was one of several fortresses built along the northern Urartian border and was one of the most important political, economic and cultural centers of the vast kingdom. The name Yerevan itself derives from Erebuni.

Day 3
Sanahin

We will move by bus to Vanadzor. On the way we will visit Aparan which is one of the oldest towns of Armenia (2nd century) and famous basilica (4th century), perhaps we can meet the local priest here. The path goes to Spitak, which has been destroyed by the earthquake in 1988. We will continue our tour by bikes to Qobayr (35km). Qobayr is a 12th century Armenian monastery located in the village Kober within Lori province. We will continue out tour by bus to the monasteries of Sanahin, Haghpat, the spiritual centers in the Middle Ages (10th century). Many monuments of Armenia are embedded in a great, desolate landscape. Then we will partly pass the way by bus, partly by bicycle till Noyemberyan.

Day 4
Ijevan

Our first bike ride passes through wooded places. Before the trip to Makaravanq we will have time for picnic. We will continue on to Makaravank, which is a medieval Armenian monastic complex situated on the slopes of Paitatap mountain. Optional hike from the road deep into Enokavan Lastiver.  We will reach for Ijevan, an important place on the ancient trade route from east to west (bike ride 40 km).

Day 5
Dilijan

After breakfast we start out trip through thickly wooded hill to the monastից complex Goshavank (12th-13 th centuries). The stage ends in Dilijan, a small spa in the middle of wooded nature reserve. Here we will find beautiful examples of traditional wooden houses of Armenian architecture. Optionally, we will visit to the Children's Art School (45 miles).

Day 6
Sevan

We will move by a bus to Sevan. In contrast to the lush green mountains and luxurious view, we see an impressive steppe-like landscape. We reach for Lake Sevan situated on the 1,900 m height. Its cool blue water in summer invites you to a swim. Sevan Monastery (9th century) is situated on Sevan Peninsula, which was originally an island in the 20th Century. The bike ride of the day starts from there along the shore. Here you will see some birds that don’t migrate in autumn.

Day 7
Tsapatagh

Today we enjoy the comforts of our hotel. Relax in the swimming pool of the hotel, sauna, swimming in the lake in summer. We will have a chance to taste delicious fishes. On the large terrace we have a fantastic panoramic view. We take a good rest for continuing our cycling tour on.

Day 8
Martuni

We go around Lake Sevan by bike: to the left there is a great mountain range, to the right there is the silvery lake. In summer we can go to swim and also have picnics. Near the village Tsovinar we climb the Urartian fortress Teisheba - Ura, and enjoy the beautiful views of the lake.

Day 9
Yeghegnadzor

We continue our walk through  Vardenyats mountain pass (Selim) and reach for the caravanserai (14th century). At an altitude of 2,410 meters, we enjoy the most fascinating view of Ararat. Here we pass through Silk Road. We enjoy a spectacular descent to Yeghegnadzor.

Day 10
Sisian

The route to Sisian we will  partly pass by bike. In the afternoon there is a possibility to having lunch in a beautiful riverside local restaurant. Sisian is a pretty small town, and you may easily have a walk from one side of it to another. (transfer 30km / bicycle 55 km).

Day 11
Zorats Stones

We will visit the Bronze Age dating “Armenian Stonehenge”. Graves and stones together form a mythical place of worship having a special appearance. From here we cycle to a fortrificated  monastery dating back to 10th century. The complex offers a spectacular view over the gorge and river Vorotan. We will have a picnic near the warm springs of Vorotan. (Round trip by bike: 40 miles).

Day 12
Tatev

In the morning we start our trip to Vorotan and have a chance to see Satan bridge. Then we move to Tatev Monastery. Monastery of Tatev is a 9th century Armenian monastery located in Tatev village in Syunik Province in southern Armenia. The monastery performed an important role in the history of the region, becoming its political, spiritual and cultural center. According to tradition, the monastery was named after Eustateus, a disciple of St. Thaddeus the Apostle. Later it became the political center of Syunik principality.

Day 13
Goris

In Tatev there is a cable railway over the spectacular gorge of Vorotan near Halidzor. Wings of Tatev is a 5.7 km (3.5 mi) cableway between Halidzor and Tatev Monastery. It is the longest reversible aerial tramway built in one section only. Construction was finished on 16 October 2010. It runs from the village of Halidzor near a highway connecting the Armenian capital Yerevan to the village of Tatev. The cable car travels at a speed of 37 kilometers per hour and a one-way journey takes 11 minutes. On the 23rd of October 2010 it was officially recorded in the Guinness World Records book. We move to Goris. Goris is famous for its fruit species. After lunch, we visit Old Goris, where you can see old stone houses. We get back to Yerevan, arrival in the evening. (40 km / transfer 250 km).

Day 14
Yerevan

We have a free day in Yerevan to have a walk, admire the view of the magic mountain Ararat. We move to the  hotel and prepare ourselves  for the departure.

Departure

Breakfast. Hotel check out (12pm-2pm). Transfer to the airport. Departure.
